Crazy Wives

This blog is a conglomeration of posts written by eight friends who are wives of medical students. Our initial idea was to write a novel on being married to a medical student, however, we weren't sure when we would actually have time to sit down and write a book. This blog is the next best thing.

We think that there is a population of folks out there who are experiencing this season of life and having a little community to express our ideas, thoughts, wisdom, suggestions, and mad poetry (maybe not) would be a good idea. You know, so we don't have a nervous breakdown and run through the streets wearing a cape, throwing our husband's anatomy handouts into the wind.

ENJOY!

I'm not a wife but a girl friend, he's starting med school in august. I've never known any one who went through medical school, my understanding of health professionals comes from ER, Chicago Hope, Gray's Anatomy and a mild addiction to Discovery Health Chanel.
He's really worried that I won't be able to handle it. I am so glad that there is a forum like this where I can see what it's really like for people. Because I doubt the hoop-la that occurs on prime time is the reality of things. And I want to be there for him the best that I can be.
I guess what I'm trying to say is thank you for sharing your stories to help me through mine.

I'm a MSW too. He just started and already I feel like I'm being overly neglected. I'm excited to see some support out there.

Hooray for this blog!! He hasn't started yet (Fall '09) and I'm already starting to lose my mind! I have a strong feeling he will be visiting me in my padded room four years from now and our only conversation will go something like [Him] "Hi honey!" [Me] "Ruebella...phalanges...pulmonary embolism...gaaaaaahhh". So how do I keep my thread of sanity, balance work and eventually a family, and still manage to have some "alone time"with him (in all its innuendo glory) that doesnt involve a desk in a dark study room?

It is a little like that. Well, a lot like that. I found the easiest way to spend time with him is to let him count and find the vertebrae on my back.

It's sad.

So glad to find this! I am a potential MSW. My husband is finishing his undergrad this May and hoping to start med school in August of next year. I'm terrified of the changes its going to make in our lives. He will probably have to move to be able to go and I can't go with him because of my job (can't quit because I have to support him through medschool). I'm excited to read about the lives of other women like myself.

My husband recently started med school this fall and we have three kids under the age of 6. Not to mention that one of our blessings is a newborn baby. Right now I'm on maternity leave, but soon I'll be back to work full time...

I had no idea that there were other women out there! hahaha I know that sounds crazy but I have just felt so alone! My husband is leaving for medical school in April. I NEVER see him and would LOVE to be part of your group!
